Live-in Care at home for people with Dementia and Alzheimer's

At Access Care our live-in carers are well versed in providing high quality in home dementia care to our clients that have been diagnosed with Dementia.

Our home carers realise how important it is to keep people with Alzheimer’s and Dementia active with hobbies and interests. This can really help to keep them occupied, keep the mind thinking and help them to be more engaged with their surroundings.

Of course our live-in care givers recognise that every person is different and not all activities will suit everyone, but here are a few activities that many of our live-in carers do with their clients to help keep them active:

  • Playing music and singing along – this can really help to improve their mood.

  • Uptake a craft such as knitting – make sure they start with creating something easy.

  • Helping them to keep organised, for example cleaning the house will help them to do a daily task and feel good that they were able to achieve it.

  • If they have a garden, it can help for them to get involved with the upkeeping of the garden. If this is not possible, perhaps a day trip out to a local garden.

  • If they enjoy reading, make sure they have a daily newspaper – this will help to keep them reading and updated about things happening locally and nationally.

  • Baking is a great activity to do together.

  • Puzzles are a great way to keep their mind active and is something that can take their mind off other things.

These activities are something they can have a break from and come back to. What is important is that they are able to enjoy the activity and feel like they are doing something valuable!
