This Summer is an exciting one: the promise of COVID restrictions lifting means events will be able to go ahead. With this news comes joy-filled day’s out with friends and family, eating mouth-watering local food and enjoying the best entertainment all over Hampshire.
We have compiled our top five Summer events in the county that will be a fun day out for the elderly and their families, so every member from baby to great-grandparent can have an exciting day out.
The Romsey Show
Broadlands Estate, Romsey - Saturday 11th September 2021

As one of the largest one-day country shows in the South, The Romsey Agricultural & Horse Show is brimming with fun. Find displays from steam engines and vintage machinery, livestock, ‘have a go’ opportunities and live music. You can even bring along your dog and take part in the Family Dog Show. The Show hosts many local businesses so there are plenty of shopping opportunities, and a dedicated Food Zone offering a variety of food and drink from local producers. Not all events will be going ahead due to restrictions, however, the Hampshire attraction has reduced the price for this year’s admission but have guaranteed it will still be an action-packed day.
If a visitor needs a carer with them, one carer will be admitted for a reduced price in advance or on the day. You can also hire a mobility scooter for the day, but it is essential you book in advance by contacting Poole Shop mobility on 01202 670450 and it is recommend doing this by 31st August. On the day of The Show, Poole Shop Mobility will be located to the left of the Main Entrance.

BBC Gardener’s World Spring Fair

At the end of May, BBC’s Gardener’s World have teamed with Hillier to inspire your gardening. Packed with plenty of Spring entertainment, from a stunning garden feature, created by the team at Hillier, talks from BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine editors and special guests, and the BBC Good Food Market offering a delicious mix of local food and drink producers.
Guests with disabilities are offered a concessionary ticket price, as well as free entry for a personal assistant upon proof of eligibility. Beaulieu themselves have excellent accessibility, and you can find out all of this information here.
The fair will be 10am-6pm each day and you can purchase your tickets in advance here.
Winchester Hat Fair
Winchester - Friday 2 - Sunday 4 July 2021

The Hat Fair takes place every year on the first weekend of July. A free festival that takes over the city of Winchester in Hampshire, dividing the centre up into ‘festival zones’. It’s a weekend jam-packed with street theatre and outdoor performance.

Wallop Wheels and Wings
Army Flying Museum, Middle Wallop - Saturday 3 July 2021

As a new event for 2021, Wallop Wheels and Wings should be a great one to explore this Summer. The event is to celebrate 300 super and classic cars, and bikes, as well as 40 classic aircraft by bringing them together in one action-packed day. There will be a whole range of attractions such as a kid’s zone, live music, beer tent and food court, military area, corporate village. Multiple aircraft will be flying on the day, including 3 replica Spitfires, a Travel Air 4000, a Boeing E75, and more.
There is disabled parking onsite and you will be asked upon booking if you require disabled parking on the day. The majority of the site is on a grass field that is mostly level, and the museum itself is fully accessible including disabled toilets.

Park Proms
Broadlands Estate, Romsey - Friday 27 August 2021

The Park Proms taking place at the Broadlands Estate will be hosting the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, conducted by Pete Harrison, as well as other guests such as Aled Jones, Laura Wright and Escala. The Friday entertainment will also feature a spectacular air show. This star-studded line up will make for a fantastic day out for the elderly - take your chair, blanket, and picnic to sit and enjoy the show.
