What Is Palliative Care?
Palliative care is care, support and treatment for people who have a terminal illness which cannot be cured and the person is likely to die from. Conditions such as advanced cancer, motor neuron disease, and dementia are examples of conditions which could benefit from palliative care.
The goal of palliative end of life care is to help the person have a good quality of life, and independence, during the time they have left. Palliative care involves management of condition symptoms, medication prompts and administration, support with every day tasks like washing and dressing, social activities like seeing friends or family, companionship, and nutrition.
Palliative care can be arranged at any stage of the illness, and it doesn't necessarily mean the person with a terminal illness will die soon - palliative care can be arranged for a number of years in some cases. However palliative care is more commonly arranged for those people who are likely to die soon - this is also called 'end of life care'.
Palliative Live-In Care Specialists
